Police said the gun was not hidden. Smith told police he had it at his desk at work and last week decided to bring it home and put it in his backpack, according to a police report. Smith said he forgot about the gun in his bag when he packed for the business trip he was taking this week, according to the report.

Police escorted Smith to his vehicle in the parking garage to properly secure the gun. Smith was able to continue on his travels to Atlanta and then to Los Angeles.
