All-terrain wheelchair gives Marine his independence back

Cpl. Christopher Natto lost feeling in legs in parachute accident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A wounded Marine regained some of his independence Wednesday with the help of a unique wheelchair donated by Freedom Alliance.

After a parachute accident in 2016, Marine Sgt. Christopher Natto suffered a spinal cord injury and lost all feeling in his legs. After a rough year of surgeries and rehab, Natto will now be able to keep up with his active family, including his wife and young son.

Freedom Alliance, an organization supporting injured service members, presented Natto with a custom all-terrain wheelchair in St. Augustine. It will make it easier for him to travel through the beach, the mud, and even the woods.

"We got some part of our life back that was taken from us after Christopher's accident," Natto's wife, Sydney, said. "We have a dad that can be more of a dad now and be more active and a part of his son's life. That's what it means to us. It means a lot."

Natto said he is looking forward to a hunting trip with his family in the future.
