JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Just over 12 hours after a man was shot and killed outside a Westside convenience store, Jacksonville police charged a 39-year-old man with murder.
Sharod Dues, 38, was shot and killed about 7 p.m. Sunday in front of the McDuff Food Mart located on McDuff Avenue, just north of West Beaver Street.
Investigators said Christopher Brown drove up and got out of a car, shot the man, got back in the car and fled the scene.
Dues died later after being taken to the hospital.
Monday morning police arrested Brown at a home on Broadway Avenue, about six blocks from the shooting scene.
Police said the shooting was recorded on the store's surveillance video, which allowed them to quickly identified the shooter and made the arrest.
Detectives said Dues had been in an argument with an unnamed woman earlier in the evening. That woman went to Brown's house after the argument and then went to the store with Brown, where the two ran into the victim.
"She tells him what happened; they go up to the store," said JSO Assistant Chief Chris Butler. "The victim was at the store as well. The suspect gets out of the car, shoves him after an argument and then shoots him one time in the torso."
The altercation lasted less than a minute, ending with the Dues being shot at point blank range. In addition to the video, there were multiple witnesses at the convenience store who Police said were able to identify Brown.
Detectives confiscated evidence from Brown's home Monday, and impounded his vehicle which he drove home from the convenience store.
