JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a happy reunion that was five years in the making.

Someone brought a stray cat Thursday to Timuquana Animal Hospital. The cat was treated and a microchip was found.

The cat's owner was in Orlando and she said the cat was stolen five years ago. The owner came to a Westside clinic Friday.

News4Jax talked to one of the veterinary assistants and he explained how something like this makes it all worthwhile.

"These kind of long-distance reunion stories you don't see every day," veterinary technician Jeff Sweeny said. "But when they happen, you feel good. You feel like your job has a purpose and you're changing lives. In this case, we're changing the human life and a kitty-cat life. You can't beat reunions like that. It makes us feel good to do what we're doing, and come to work and help save animals every day."

Sweeny said this is a good reminder that pets need to be microchipped and to make sure when you move your address is updated on your pet's microchip.
