Chalking it up on The Morning Show

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A popular form of restoring vintage and antique furniture made its way onto The Morning Show. Channel 4's Nikki Kimbleton was joined by ladies from the shop Cottage Cove in Fleming Island to go over how to chalk paint.

Chalk painting is a form of painting becoming popular with many people who like to restore older or antique furniture that they find everywhere from their own attic to garage sales.

During the segment the women showed a quick example with an old picture frame.

"Minimal prep. We do recommend cleaning, making sure you put on a good greaser," said Stephanie Smith, who works at the store.

Smith said you can do minimal sanding if you want before you start painting.

"You're basically just scuffing the surface. But then just start painting," she said.

The popularity of chalk painting has taken off and Cottage Cove has attracted multiple local vendors who restore old furniture and other items.

"We have about ten vendors and locally handmade items and fashion accessories," said Karen Gregory, the shop's owner.

Cottage Cove is located on US 17 just south of the Doctor's Inlet bridge. You can also find out more about the shop at www.Cottagecovecellars.com
