City given 45 days to decide on 7-Eleven revisions

Some residents oppose building the gas station due to safety concerns

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A St. Johns County judge has given the City of St. Augustine 45 days to decide on a revised plan to build a 7-Eleven gas station, which some residents oppose being built.

Attorneys for the company that wants to build the 7-Eleven met in court Monday after an appeal was filed for a judge to reconsider the motion to dismiss a revised plan to build the convenience store.

This dispute stems from the development of a 12 pump gas station at May Street and San Marco Avenue. A building permit was issued, but was revoked by the commission after opponents of the gas station raised safety and traffic issues.

Lawyers for 7-Eleven contend the commission violated its due process by refusing to consider the revised plan.

The revision would still make the 7-Eleven a 12 pump gas station, but it would reduce both the width of the driveway and the turning radius leading to the street.
