Beach Boulevard at Hodges store robbed 40 minutes after Ponte Vedra holdup

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A man and a woman arrested Sunday afternoon in the armed robbery of a convenience store on Beach Boulevard are also suspected of holding up a Kangaroo store in Ponte Vedra Beach earlier in the day, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

A 22-year-old clerk of the store on State Road A1A said a man came into the store with a knife about 4 p.m. and demanded $20 in gas. Then he walked to the cooker and got a eight-pack of beer, walked out of the store, got into a small red pickup truck with a woman passenger and drove away without pumping any gas.

While in the store, he told a woman customer waiting to pay for drinks, cereal and gas that she didn't need to pay for anything.

About 40 minutes later, Jacksonville police responded to a robbery in progress at a convenience store on Beach at Hodges Boulevard. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said individuals matching the description of the suspects were stopped in the area, but did not confirm arrests or provide names.

The investigations in both Jacksonville and St. Johns County remain open.
