Crash victim's family: 'I already miss her'

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Adriola Spahiu was heading home from work, just two miles away when she crashed her car and was killed. The 19-year-old was four months pregnant.

Now, her family is sharing her story.

Spahiu was involved in a crash Tuesday on U.S. 1, just south of Hilden Road in St. Johns County. Spahiu swerved into the median and hit a car headed in the opposite direction.

Behind the wheel of that car was 81-year-old Robert Amell, who was listed in serious condition.

"I'm going to miss her more than ever. I'm going to miss her so much," Flora Spahiu, Adriola's mother, said.

Adriola, who went by Ola, moved to northeast Florida with her family from Albania when she was 9. She dreamed of becoming a famous singer and had just created a song entitled, "My story."

"I loved her. I still love her," said Matea Spahiu, Adriola's younger sister. "I'm going to miss her a lot. She always wanted to be famous. She was like, 'I'm going to be No. 1 one day.' But I already miss her and it's only been a day."

Adriola Spahiu's car overturned in the crash, and another car hit the top of her car.

"She could make you smile with a hug, with a kiss, whatever, but she could always make you happy," said Clara Condon, Adriola's neighbor. "I only hope God is holding her in his arms, because that is where she belongs."

Matea Spahiu said she's lost her role model and best friend.

"We were really close, and now who am I going to tell everything to?" she said.

They said she loved making new friends, put her all into everything and never gave up. Her family said she would've made a wonderful mom. Now her mom is trying to figure out how to go on without her.

"She had a big heart and I love her so much, and yesterday was her last day in this world, but I know now she is safe. She is up there with God," Flora Spahiu said.
