Family holds rally for D'Angelo Stallworth

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Four days after a man was shot and killed by police, his family and friends are asking that the officers involved be indicted.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said officers shot and killed 28-year-old D'Angelo Stallworth because they feared for their lives.

The officers were assisting with an eviction at the Planters Walk Apartment Complex on Blanding Boulevard Tuesday morning. They said at one point, Stallworth grabbed a gun and pointed it into the chest of one of the officers. There was a struggle. Police said Stallworth dropped the gun and then ran way.

Saturday afternoon, at least 50 of Stallworth's loved ones held a protest at the complex where he died in hopes of getting to answers to their many questions.

Although they said the version of events given by police does not make sense, they want to keep their protest peaceful.

"He went to work every day. He didn't start missing work until he got sick. How can he pull a gun when he has no feeling in his hand," Yashika Johnson, Stallworth's mother said.

Friends and family hope to get to the bottom of what happened the morning he was killed.

"If someone said they saw him put a gun in a police officer's chest, I want to hear witnesses that witnessed that. These two maintenance men under oath to say that," said Shawn Jump.

An autopsy is being done on D'Angelo Stallworth. Those results are expected possibly sometime next week.?
