Family honors slain man on his birthday

Tony Holmes, 21, was shot and killed Nov. 30

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of a Northside man found dead just days after Thanksgiving came together on Tuesday evening to honor his name and pleaded for the shooter to come forward.

21-year-old Tony Holmes was shot and killed on Nov. 30, 2014-- when he had so much ahead of him. Holmes' daughter was only 2-months-old when he died.

Family members of Holmes said they are keeping his memory alive for the sake of his loving family and his now 3-month-old daughter.

MAD DADS organized a vigil for Holmes to honor him on his birthday. And although there were balloons that read "happy birthday." Charlotte Bell, the mother of Holmes could assure that this was not a celebration she wanted for her child.

"He was a good person. He was loved. He was a great dad. He was loved by everybody. And this was a shock for everybody. He didn't bother anybody. All we want is closer. Who did it?" Said Bell.

Bell said she asks herself that question every night: Who shot and killed her son, leaving him for dead on Moncrief Road?

"You may believe that you committed the perfect murder, and have gotten away with it and can just go on about your daily lives," said father Selvin Holmes. But you are wrong. Someone in the area seen something and have not built up the nerve to talk something but the conscious of those who know something is telling them to do the right thing. And who all was involved will be brought to justice."

If you know anything about this case you are asked to Call Crime Stoppers or the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
