Man accused of assaulting, imprisoning pregnant girlfriend

Deputies say woman was able to Facebook message friend for help

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – An Orange Park man was arrested Sunday after assaulting and imprisoning his pregnant girlfriend inside their home in front of their 1-year-old child, the Clay County Sheriff's Office said.

Anthony Jean Piere, 23, is charged with adult false imprisonment, aggravated assault, aggravated battery on his girlfriend, who is four-months pregnant.

Deputies said they responded to the home in the Hickory Glen subdivision Sunday afternoon after the victim Facebook messaged a friend for help.

The victim told deputies that after her boyfriend assaulted her, he trapped her in a bedroom and threatened her with a shotgun if she called 911.

The woman managed to Facebook messaged a friend, who then called for help on her behalf, deputies said.

According to the arrest affidavit, at some point, the woman managed to get out of the bedroom with the couple's 1-year-old child and run out of the house as Jean Piere ran after them.

A neighbor, who did not wish to be identified, said watching Jean Piere being placed into custody was an unusual sight for the community.

"I saw a lot of police presence Sunday afternoon, three to five Clay County sheriff's cars. One person was in the back seat," the neighbor said. "This is a very quiet neighborhood and very family-oriented neighborhood. We never had any problems. So this was a big surprise for us."

Jean Piere, a convicted felon out of Connecticut, also faces possession of a short-barreled shotgun and/or ammo by a convicted felon, according to the Sheriff's Office.

He was booked into the Clay County Jail on $225,000 bond.
