5 dead, 3 injured in 3-car crash

Crash happened on U.S. 1 at South Old Dixie Hwy

Five people were killed and three others were injured in a 3-car crash in Bunnell (WKMG)

BUNNELL, Fla. – Five people died in a crash Sunday morning involving three vehicles on U.S. 1 at South Old Dixie Highway near the White Eagle Lounge, the Florida Highway patrol said.

Edwin Santana, 58, and Olga Melania Nunez, 70, both of Miramar, Fla., Gloria Santana, 53 and Sonia Elena Melendez, 64 both of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Maria Rosario Cedeno, 74 of Miami, were all  the same SUV that troopers said turned left from onto U.S. 1 into the path of an oncoming pickup truck about 11:30 a.m.  All five died.

Two passengers in the pickup truck received minor injuries and the driver of a car also struck in the accident was also hurt. Names of those killed were not released by Sunday night, but they were adults from south Florida  between the age of 53 and 74.

The crash shut down southbound U.S. 1 and detoured traffic onto Seminole Woods Boulevard until about 4 p.m.
