Pit bull bites toddler, adults in Central Florida

Adults bitten while trying to save child

EDGEWATER, Fla. – Edgewater Fire Rescue crews respond to a report of a pit bull that had bitten a toddler and was also after the adults that were trying to save the child, WKMG-TV reported.

Edgewater Fire Rescue said that they responded to the call at 9:15 a.m. Sunday. A pit bull had bitten a toddler and was attempting to bite the adults, who were trying to rescue the child.

When crews arrived they witnessed the pit bull in the act of biting several adults, officers said.

Firefighters held the dog at bay with a fire hose and fire extinguisher until police arrived a few moment later.

Edgewater Police Department said it's officer was able to secure the dog in the back of his patrol car which allowed fire crews to treat the injured patients.

The toddler and four adults were transported to local hospitals. All appear to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Police and Edgewater Animal Control are investigating the attach and the identify of the owner of the pit bull.

The dog is be held under quarantine at the Edgewater Animal Shelter.
