St. Johns County man charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery

Steven Dobish, 34, being held on $150,000 bond

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The man arrested Friday in connection with a domestic disturbance in the Samara Lakes subdivision of the World Golf Village made his first appearance in court Saturday.

Steven Jonathan Dobish, 34, was charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery with serious injury with a weapon.

According to the sheriff's office, a man brought a 31-year-old woman to Baptist South Hospital with serious injuries Friday afternoon. She was then airlifted to UF Health in Jacksonville for further treatment.

A witness wrote down the man's vehicle and tag information and called the sheriff's office, investigators said. Deputies said they then went to Dobish's home on Wynfield Circle.

After questioning, Dobish, who was out on bond for previous domestic violence charges was booked into the St. Johns County Jail, deputies said.

A man claiming to be the victim's estranged husband said his wife is the mother of two girls.

"It's extremely scary when you get a phone call and they can't give you any details other than she suffered serious injuries," the man said.

He said learning about his wife's condition was heartbreaking. He immediately rushed to the hospital to be by her side.

"No matter what the situation we've been through, I've always wanted the best for her and I love her," he said. "She's still the mother of our children."

Justin Ramage, who said he used to work with the victim, came to the scene to try to find out more details.

"That's pretty serious. She was a real cool chick," Ramage said. "I talked to her all the time at work, so I hope she's alright."

Deanna Clark-Curry, who lives in the neighborhood, was one of the several residents who received knocks on their doors from investigators Friday.

"They were just asking questions, seeing if any of the neighbors had seen anything or knew anything," Clark-Curry said.

Two years ago, a hazmat team, along with St. Johns County Fire Rescue crews, spent nearly six hours investigating a meth lab inside another home in the Samara Lakes subdivision.

"This is the second event that has happened. It's a little disturbing having young kids. I didn't want my daughter to be around this kind of stuff," Clark-Curry said. "This whole block is full of kids."

Dobish is being held on no bond.
