Fundraiser to be held for family of Johnnie Carter

Police say 15-year-old was shot, killed near his Lakeshore home

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A fundraiser will be held on Sunday for the family of a 15-year-old shot and killed near his Lakeshore home earlier this month.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Johnnie Carter was shot and killed about 5 a.m. July 6 in the street, near the intersection of Sunderland Road and Vista Avenue.

Police said it appears that there was some sort of altercation.

No arrests have been made in the case.

Carter will be remembered at Jammes Pub at 6419 San Juan Avenue on Jacksonville's Westside. A poker run will begin at 10 a.m. and then music will start at 3 p.m.

The pub's manager said his son was Carter's friend, and his heart goes out to Carter's mother.

"She's got so much going on," said Buster Harris. "This Sunday is for her and her family. And as a biker community, the community that we have here, this is the best thing we can do to try to help them."

Harris told News4Jax his son was friends with Carter for about two years. "They met through mutual friends a couple years back. Always got along, laughed, and enjoyed themselves. Just good kids."

Harris said the goal of the fundraiser is to help Carter's mother and brothers get whatever they need following this tragedy. "Not everybody can afford funeral expenses or things that need to be done," Harris said.

Anyone with information in Carter's murder is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
