ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -

Another effort was held Saturday to help save the St. Johns River Ferry.

Earlier this year, Jaxport decided it can no longer afford to operate the ferry and turned over its operation to a non-profit on Oct. 1.

A fundraiser called "Ferry Fest" on Saturday included live music, dancing, art vendors and lots of food trucks.

The ferry connects State Road A1A between Mayport and Fort George Island.

People at the festival said the ferry has been operating for decades and they'd hate to see it go.

"The ferry is on life support," said organizer Penny Kamish. "The city gave us money to keep the electricity on this year, but we're still looking for permanent funding."

This is the second year of the festival.
