Gainesville police officer threatened by suspect with railroad spike

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A police officer in Gainesville was threatened while making an arrest by a man with a railroad spike. 

Police say two officers were called to the Hampton Inn on SW 40 Boulevard because of an aggressive panhandler. When the officers they noticed Henry Chambers, 54 walking away and being obnoxious towards others.

Police say Chambers continued to panhandle as he walked away.  Police say when they searched Chambers they found a large railroad iron spike in his back pocket. When asked why he had the spike police say Chambers replied "To stab you with it."

Chambers was arrested for possession of a concealed weapon by a convicted felon and trespassing.
