JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 57-year-old man is charged with attempted sexual battery, burglary and violating a protective order in connection with an attack Sunday that was interrupted by a good Samaritan with a gun, police said.

According to the arrest report, Zachery Richardson broke into the Riverside apartment of a woman he had been stalking. She obtained an injunction against him because of his unwanted attentions. The police report said a neighbor saw Richardson leaving the woman's home with her TV.

When Richardson went back into the home, the neighbor arrived with a gun and followed him, thinking this was suspicious. By that time, Richardson was on top of the woman, beating her and screaming he was going to rape her.

The neighbor, who could see the assault through the window, fired a single shot into the air, and Richardson ran off.

Police found him at his "place of residence," a van on Stockton Street and booked him into the Duval County jail.
