The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a home invasion after a robbery suspect robber was arrested early Thursday morning in Riverside.
Police received a call of a disturbance about 2 a.m. at 2591 Post St.
When they arrived, there was a fight going on, officers said.
"The officer heard a disturbance and someone yelling for help inside the residence," Sgt. C.B. Shivers said. "The officer made entry into the residence and observed what appeared to be a fight in progress."
Police arrested a man they believe to be the aggressor in the fight.
After the initial investigation, police found out the fight was the result of a home invasion in progress and was between the homeowner and robbery suspect.
The victim, identified as 63-year-old Henry Scott, was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries, the extent of which were not released.
Scott's neighbor is the one who called 911 after he said he heard Scott screaming.
"I heard somebody knock on the door. Next thing I know, my next door neighbor was screaming and hollering and carrying on and screaming and hollering and calling my name: 'Mr.Willie, Mr.Willie,' and calling my wife's name," said Willie Johnson. "I felt obligated to try to do something, so my wife told me to call 911 and stay inside the house, and they showed up."
Johnson said he was scared the intruder might have a weapon, so he stayed inside. He said the intruder smashed Scott's face with an ash tray.
"His eye was closed. It was a horrific looking situation," Johnson said.
The suspect was arrested and transported to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed by a robbery detective.
It's unknown if anything was taken from the home or what the suspect was after.
