Fire to abandoned Westside house investigated

JFRD: Fire started in garage, spread to attic; no injuries reported

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Parts of a roof collapsed into a home on the Westside after a fire started in the attic, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Just before 7 a.m. JFRD was notified of a fire to a home on 4663 Amherst Street, just west of Roosevelt Boulevard.

Firefighters were able to get the fire under control. JFRD said the fire originated in garage, then spread to the attic.

During the fire fight, parts of the roof collapsed, but no one was injured. JFRD said the firefighters were able to get out of the home while parts of the roof collapsed.

JFRD said the home was abandoned and the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
