Hundreds turnout for 1st day of Jaguars training camp

Fans say atmosphere was 'electric'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first Jacksonville Jaguars preseason game is less than two weeks away, and fans now have the chance to see the team in action.

Starting Friday, training camp opened up to the public.

The scorching temperatures didn't keep hundreds of fans from coming out to see how the Jags are looking prior to the start of the preseason. Many folks were looking forward to seeing the rookies and said this year is going to be a good one.

"I think the team really went out this year and did a great job and picked up some great players," Jags fan Charles Setting said.

"I wanted to see the players before the season starts,” Jags fan Vanessa Sheridan said. “Get a gauge on them, because I believe we’re going to the Super Bowl."

Jags fans are ready for some football.

The stands were filled with teal and gold, and the atmosphere was “electric,” Jags fan Satchel Whetsel said. “Very electric.”

Some people even played hooky to attend the camp.

"I’m out here on a workday," Whetsel said.

The Jags took to the field Friday, running drills and learning plays. Fans said they're satisfied with what they saw on the first day of training camp.

"A lot more speed. A lot more starred up," Whetsel said.

"There’s finally a lot of buzz around the team and for the right reasons," Jags fan Philip Smith said.

The fans agreed, and these open practices give them a chance to connect with the team.

“I love it,” Whetsel said. “It gives the casual fans out an opportunity to get off the couch and expand the fanbase.”
