JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A tree fell on a car and an SUV on Wednesday at the Oasis Apartments on Claire Lane just off San Jose Boulevard in Mandarin.
Witnesses told News4JAX construction workers were cutting down the tree and it fell the wrong way, smashing the windshield of a nearby car.
"It just happened in slow motion," one neighbor said. "It came down and just crashed and there was debris everywhere. I guess they're going to fix it in the morning. It was just an accident."
The neighbor said no one was hurt but a woman who had just gotten out of her vehicle with a baby was narrowly missed by the tree.
The Florida Department of Transportation said its construction engineer inspection team talked with residents and is following up. Insurance representatives will be at the location Thursday morning.
A sub-contractor team arrived shortly after 7 p.m. and began cutting the downed tree so the fencing can be reset for safety and security, according to Ron Tittle with FDOT.
