JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two 17-year-olds were booked into juvenile detention on charges of sexual battery after police investigated the rape of an Englewood High School student earlier this month.
According to the arrest report, the victim, a 15-year-old girl, said two boys led her to the back of Cambridge Park Apartments about 10 p.m. Oct. 9. Once there, they told her they wanted to "have some fun," smoke and drink with her. When she said no and tried to leave, one of the boys grabbed her and pulled her back.
The report says she tried to kick them off and a third boy arrived, and they took off the victim's jeans and leggings and took turns having sex with her. The girl said they covered her mouth as she tried to scream.
"She obviously felt comfortable enough with talking with these individuals. She declined their offer and then they forced themselves on her," Channel 4 crime and safety analyst Ken Jefferson said. "This is a horrendous crime, that three persons would actually gang rape a young girl like this."
The victim reported the rape to the school resource officer two days later, led investigators to the scene, and surveillance video from the apartment complex showed a female and three males walk to the back of the property at 9:40 p.m. that night. She was also examined by a doctor.
Officers said as they were transporting the victim back to school, she spotted Kevin Riley and Johnny Turner in front of the McDonald's on University Boulevard and identified them as two of the attackers.
Riley and Turner agreed to be questioned and to give a DNA sample. They were both arrested.
Police had no information about the a third suspect.
A resident of the apartment complex said she heard the commotion, but didn't hear the girl and thought it was just guys joking around.
"Suppose my children would've come outside playing," Renee Shurns said. "They would've come around here and try to do something to my kids."
