PALATKA, Fla. – A 20-year-old convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder in the June 2010 robbery and murder of a Crescent City man was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole.

A second man charged in King's slaying, Demarkis Phillips, 19, pleaded guilty in August 2011. He was also sentenced on Tuesday by Circuit Judge Carlos Mendoza. He received 23 years in prison to be followed by 10 years of probation.

Assistant State Attorney Jason Lewis said Martinez fatally stabbed King several times in the neck and upper torso with a knife. After the robbery, the defendants split the victim's property, including some marijuana, and dumped his body in a wooded area.
