A witness told FHP officials that Felipie Lopez was standing on the east shoulder of the roadway talking with the witness.  As Jones approached the complex on U.S. 1, the witness said Lopez ran out directly in front of Jones' rig.

The FHP report says Jones attempted to swerve into the other lanes of traffic but still hit Lopez.  Jones stopped his vehicle in a northbound lane of U.S. 1.

Lopez was flown to Shands Jacksonville where he died soon after arrival. According to the FHP report, Lopez died from the injuries sustained.

Jones was not hurt. FHP is still investigating why Lopez ran out into traffic and if alcohol may have been a factor.

Charges have not been filed at this time.
