JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was convicted Thursday afternoon on charges of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In November 2010, Miguel Tirado Jr. robbed two people sitting in a car at Victory Park on University Club Boulevard. The then-25-year-old threatened the couple with a handgun and made off with $25 in cash.

Tirado is considered a habitual offender, as well as a prison release re-offender. He was convicted on a charge of possession of cocaine in October 2007 and burglary of a dwelling in January 2009.

Tirado was released from prison just three months before committing the armed robbery.

"This jury's verdict makes the streets of Jacksonville safer. This defendant faces the maximum sentence of life in prison because of his criminal history," said Assistant State Attorney Collins Cooper.

Tirado will be sentenced Sept. 17.
