Man shot several times after argument in hotel parking lot

Shooting happened at Hawthorn Suites on Baymeadows Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot Saturday after an argument with another man at a hotel in the Baymeadows area, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting happened at about 6:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Jacksonville at 8737 Baymeadows Road near Baymeadows Way, just west of Interstate 95, police said.

Police said they believe the man shot was staying at the hotel with a woman and knew the gunman.

The victim was shot three to five times in the back while trying to run away following an argument in the parking lot, police said.

The gunman drove away and was later tracked by police at his home on Bowden Road using the license plate number reported by witnesses, police said.

Neighbors told News4Jax that an elderly woman lives in the home with her son and daughter. Neighbors said they saw the woman’s son being put into the back of a police cruiser at about 8:30 a.m.

The man shot was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.

The shooting is the second at the Hawthorn Suites this year. The first was on March 14, where police responded to a call of shots fired and found a man with a gunshot wound on the ground in the side parking lot.
