Local business loses $90K due to power outage

More Than Ink Printing unable to fill orders after power not connected correctly

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local business has lost nearly $90,000 in the last week after first losing power six days ago.

Mike Meyer, the print manager of More Than Ink Printing, said the shop loses out on $15,000 each day they haven't been able to do business.

"We can't produce anything. We've got our large digital, we've got our four off-set color printers, our cutters, our folders, all of it runs off this. None of them can work without the power," Meyer said.

The business lost electricity during Hurricane Matthew, along with half of JEA's customers.

"They were here Sunday afternoon and when they turned the power back on, it caused a fire on the pole. And I guess the parking lot and everything. So JEA had to come put it out and everything else, put a new pole in and when they did, they hooked up regular service, just the regular 120 single phase, but not our three-phase service they connected to the pole and it's just hanging there," Meyer said.

Since then, all of the shop's equipment has been offline and hundreds of jobs have been stacking up.

"We've got orders that are just waiting. That's what all these tickets are for -- that customers are waiting on and they can't get their orders. They are getting upset," Meyer said.

And it's not just the customers who are frustrated. Meyer said they're having to send employees home because they are unable to work due to the power situation.

"We have always had an abundance of work. There is always stuff leftover, needing to be done. We just hired a new person," Meyer said.

Meyer said they have not yet received a timeline from JEA on when the issue will be repaired.

"I understand the pressure. The technicians have to get things done and running and to do it safely. But they came out and did work, but they left it half done," he said.

News4Jax reached out to JEA to get an estimate on how long it will take to fix the power to the business, but has not yet heard back.
