No abduction, but suspect runs from crash

Investigators say man fled after crashing stolen car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are investigating what they say began as a possible abduction attempt Sunday morning in southwest Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a lookout was issued for a vehicle that a woman may have been forced into. Shortly after, an officer spotted the car at a gas station near NAS Jacksonville.

Police said officers turned around to approach the car. As they did, they said the driver of the car attempted to flee but ran out of gas and the car rolled into a ditch before a pursuit could began. 

Officials say a man then fled the area on foot.

JSO said there was no abduction and a woman was treated at the scene for scrapes and bruises on her feet.

Officers say the woman told them she got into a fight with the driver of the car, but said she didn't know his name.

According to investigators, they later found the car had been taking during a carjacking.  Police say the man who ran has not been apprehended.
