JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Long lines formed at the gun show at the Prime Osborne Convention Center over the weekend.
As President Barack Obama prepares to take his message about gun control on the road Monday, vendors at the gun show said many sold out.
"Every time the government rattles its chains and shakes its cages, sales go up," said gun dealer Dennis Crawford.
Gun dealers say the high demand is a result of people fearing they may lose their Second Amendment rights.
"The public or the shooters are alarmed that there will be no ammunition, so they made that true by buying up all the ammunition they can get their hands on," said ammunition dealer Ray Wallace.
Organizers said the gun show this past weekend set all kinds of records.
"We're making more obviously because we're selling more," said one vendor.
Leaders are pushing for bans on high-powered rifles, high capacity magazines and looking to better regulate the sale of bullets, saying they're aiming at preventing mass shootings.
"In the coming weeks, I'll use whatever power this office holds to engage my fellow citizens," said President Obama.
On Monday, Obama will start a tour across the country to push his new gun control bill. Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who nearly died when she was shot in the head two years ago, is just one of his supporters.
"It will be hard, but the time is now. You must act," said Giffords.
The gun dealers who spoke with Channel 4 Sunday had mixed opinions on whether any of the stricter rules would be passed, but they say speculation had led people to continue to buy.
"Thank you Obama. Salesman of the year," said Crawford.
