Crash in Mandarin
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was killed Monday morning in a crash in Mandarin, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
Officers said the woman, who was described as elderly, was driving on Old St. Augustine Road near Pine Breeze Road about 9:45 a.m. when her car slammed into a pole for unknown reasons. It happened just outside the Coopers Hawk apartment complex. Investigators said she was transported to a hospital, where she later died.
Police believe she may have had a medical emergency behind the wheel.
This is the second deadly crash that officers responded to Monday. Earlier in the morning, another woman was killed when she was struck by an SUV in downtown Jacksonville . Officers are working to determine if a medical emergency was also the cause of that wreck.
