Photos lead to arrest in credit union robbery

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police say a man suspected of holding up a North Jacksonville credit union Tuesday was arrested Thursday in St. Johns County, thanks numerous tips from people who saw the surveillance photos on television.

The Navy Federal Credit Union at 550 Airport Center Drive was robbed about 5:20 p.m. Police said the robber went inside, walked up to a teller, demanded money, showed a handgun and fled on foot out of the business after he received money.

After the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office released surveillance photos of the robbery to Channel 4 and other media on Wednesday, detectives got several calls identifying the person in the pictures.

An arrest warrant was obtained and Ronald Dean Mitchell was arrested.
