Police: 2 shot outside apartment

Victims listed in serious condition

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Two adult males were shot while standing outside an apartment building in Orange Park, police say.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office deputies said they responded to the Blanding Place Apartments at 2121 Burwick Avenue at 5:30 p.m.

Three suspects in a white sedan drove by the two victims. Investigators said the female driver and one of the two males fired a handgun at the two victims, striking both of them, one in the chest and one in the arm.

The victims taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where they are in serious condition. Their injuries are not considered life threatening, authorities said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Deputies said they don't yet know how or if the suspects and victims know each other.

After the shooting, the suspects fled the area, police said. Based on the vehicle description from witnesses, patrol deputies were able to locate the suspects and made a traffic stop at the 7-Eleven gas station at the intersection of Constitution and Blanding. 

The female driver was taken into custody and the two males fled on foot, deputies said. One male was apprehened after a brief foot chase and the other fled into his own apartment at Blanding Place Apartments. Negotiators said they were able to talk him into surrendering and he was taken into custody as well. 

Deputies said they found a 2-year-old child in a car seat in the suspect vehicle unharmed. Confirmation of the child's identity is pending.

The weapon used in the shooting was located in the suspect vehicle, deputies said.

All three suspects are being questioned by detectives, deputies said. Charges are pending.
