JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 36-year-old Jacksonville man was arrested last week after police said he climbed over the gate outside the FBI building armed with a gun.

Police said Avery McKnight Jr. pulled up to the front gate about 9 p.m., then climbed the 15-foot gate with his gun in hand and demanded to speak with an FBI agent because someone was trying to kill him.

A security guard pulled his own gun on McKnight and told him to drop the weapon, police said. They said McKnight did drop his gun and was arrested without incident.

Police said McKnight did not threaten the guard, just wanted to show him he was armed.

He's charged with possession of a firearm by convicted felon, armed possession of crack cocaine, armed trespassing, theft of a firearm and resisting an officer.

Police said McKnight told them he'd stolen the gun. And as McKnight was being put into the police car, he kicked his way out and had to be physically subdued, police said.
