Police: Woman killed man over cigarettes

Man stabbed to death with 10-inch butcher knife, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police say a 43-year-old woman stabbed a man to death with a butcher knife in an argument over cigarettes.

Yolanda Stills is charged with murder in the death of 56-year-old Ricardo McMillian early Saturday morning.

Jacksonville police said they found McMillian in the front yard of an apartment on Jammes Road on the Westside with stab wounds.

Police said Stills stabbed McMillian with the kitchen knife.

"She wanted a cigarette from him, and evidently he wouldn't give her one, so she went and retrieved a 10-inch butcher knife and stabbed him," said Lt. Rob Schoonover, of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

McMillian was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, where he died.

Stills left the apartment complex after the killing, but came back a short time later and was taken into custody, police said.

Police said Stills and McMillian had been living together for several months, and neighbors said they've seen two walking around the complex before, though they didn't notice anything unusual.

Stills is being held at the Duval County Jail without bail.

Police said she has been arrested 34 times and has faced multiple charges of armed and aggravated assault.
