BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The Glynn County Commission increased the reward for information about last week's death of Tom Sublett.
The commission said on Thursday they are going to match the $25,000 set by the Glynn County Police Department, making the total now $50,000.
Sublett was found dead last week. According to police, the 52-year-old's body was found floating in the water early Tuesday morning between a boat and a dock on St. Simons Island.
A coroner confirmed Sublett drowned in the river near a dock at St. Simons Boating and Fishing Club. An autopsy revealed his hands were tied with plastic zip ties and he fell into the water after he was shot in the head.
Channel 4's Scott Johnson was at Thursday's meeting at the Glynn County Commission. Along the row of Glynn County commissioners, one seat sat vacant, that of Sublett. His presence was felt throughout the first commission meeting without him.
"I never thought that I would have to sit up here at my last commission meeting without him here to my right."
The commissioners began the meeting with a moment of silence for the fallen commissioner, and a prayer focused on him.
"We're saddened by the death of our friend and brother, Tom Sublett."
All eyes now turn to the investigation. Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering was on hand. He said there are no new details he can release on the investigation, but he did say this has been a difficult one for the department to conduct.
"The personal relationship that we had with the commissioner in a professional and friendship side. It's an extension of family," said Doering. "It changes things. It's not the high profile case of it. It's that it's family. It makes a difference."
The final item on Thursday night's agenda was voting on a reward for information leading to the arrest of Sublett's killer.
"We hope that we're going to be able to finalize some of these questions in the very near future," said Glynn County Commissioner Bob Coleman. "Still got some facts that we haven't sealed yet. Hopefully we'll have that."
