JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former Duval County school security guard Douglas Tilley pleaded guilty Tuesday to reduced charges of child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Douglas Tilley, 25, was arrested and fired after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
According to the original arrest affidavit, Tilley developed a relationship with a 17-year-old student at Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology, where he worked as a security guard. The two exchanged nude photos, police said, and when she threatened to break up with him, he sent the photos to her mother.
Tilley had bonded out of jail on the original charge. On Monday, the original charge was dropped and he was charged with child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, both misdemeanors.
Tuesday morning, Tilley pleaded guilty to both charges and was placed on three years probation, undergo psychiatric counseling and have no contact with the girl. He was given two days in jail, time he already served.
Tilley's lawyer, David Robbins, said all parties were content with the agreement. Tilley will not have to register as a sex offender.
A letter from Principal Peter Senn firing Tilley says he was fired for "inappropriate conduct with the student ... unbecoming of a Duval County public school employee," according to the file from the school district.
Tilley was hired in August. According to his personnel file, it was his first job at a school. He was fired Jan. 22.
Tilley was making just under $9 an hour as a school board employee. His criminal record was clean.
