Scooter veers off Westside road

Driver taken to hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A scooter driver was in life-threatening condition at Orange Park Medical Center Monday morning after veering off the road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

"At approximately 2:50 this morning, a scooter was heading northbound on Jammes Road at about the 6500 block and for unknown reasons left the roadway, tumbled into the grassy shoulder, ejecting the rider," said Detective B.M. Blaquiere, of JSO.

Alcohol was considered a factor in the crash, according to Blaquiere.

It does not appear the man was wearing a helmet.

Wet roads may have played a role. Investigators would like to speak with witnesses to see if those were the conditions around the time of the crash.

JSO was asking witnesses to call the non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 to provide more information.
