JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Kroger, one of the nation's largest supermarket chains, is buying Harris Teeter, which has stores in Nassau County and Glynn County, Ga.
Kroger is buying the chain for about $2.4 billion.
Harris Teeter operates 212 stores throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. Most of the stores are in North Carolina.
It has two stores in this area. One is on First Coast Highway in Fernandina Beach, which is the only location in Florida. The other is on St. Simons Island and is the only one in all of Georgia.
In the past, there were stores in Mandarin and Ponte Vedra.
Once the deal is done, Harris Teeter will become a Kroger subsidiary.
There are no plans to close stores.
