KINGS BAY, Ga. – A submarine based at Kings Bay has received a high honor.
The USS Wyoming was awarded with the Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy during a ceremony Wednesday at the Georgia Naval Submarine Base.

The Navy gives the trophy every year to the most-improved ships or aviation squadrons in both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets.
The Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine crew was presented with a brass plaque that will be mounted on a bulkhead inside the sub.
Commander Chris Nash, commanding officer of Wyoming Gold, accepted the award on the crew's behalf and attributed the past year's success to the sailors.
"The four major tenants that we have on board Wyoming are: be honorable, stand a righteous watch, have a questioning attitude, report the problems and become an expert," said Nash. "That's not something that's easy to do. It requires effort and the crew has risen to that challenge continuously and consistently."
During the period of the award, Wyoming also won the Submarine Squadron 20 Battle Efficiency Award, participated in two highly successful deterrent patrols and completed a mini-Demonstration and Shakedown Operation (DASO).
USS Wyoming was commissioned July 13, 1996 and arrived at Kings Bay on July 26. It is the fourth U.S. naval vessel to be named USS Wyoming; however it is only the third named after the state of Wyoming.
In 2011, the vessel also became one of the first four submarines to allow female officers.
