JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A referendum on the ballot in Clay County gives voters the chance to throw out a law prohibiting the sale of alcohol before 2 p.m. on Sundays.
The ordinance for change is endorsed by restaurant owners like Elaine Cassala at Whitey's Fish Camp.
Cassala said she believes it's unfair when other counties in Northeast Florida don't have the same restrictions.
"Even in the town of Orange Park, and the town of Green Cove Springs, they're able to serve at 11 a.m.," said Cassala.
At the Mellow Mushroom in Fleming Island, manager John Valentino said it's hard to get fans in the door for football on Sundays when he can't serve alcohol.
"Jaguars game day, especially away games, because people go to where they can have an alcoholic beverage at noon. By the time the game has started at one, they're not going to leave somewhere and come to somewhere that's closer to their home," said Valentino.
Not everyone supports selling alcohol on Sundays at a time in the day when churchgoers are on the roadways.
"I don't think it's wrong that there's one day a week that you stay off of it. I don't see one thing wrong with that. I think it ought to stay," said Durwood Smith.
