Joshua Dukes convicted of second-degree murder, aggravated assault

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man convicted of fatally shooting another man at an apartment complex in 2013 was sentenced to life in prison, the State Attorney's Office announced Monday.

Joshua Lee Dukes, 20, was convicted in July of second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

He faces a minimum mandatory of 25 years on the murder conviction and was also sentenced to 25 consecutive years for the aggravated assault conviction.

Officers found Wesley Bridges, 36, shot multiple times at a Barnes Road apartment complex in August 2013.

The investigation revealed that Bridges and another victim were outside waiting for a ride when Dukes and his two co-defendants approached them. State attorneys said Dukes then shot Bridges multiple times.

Bridges later died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.

Roteia Hutchinson pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted armed robbery in the case, Jarquavis Davis pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and attempted armed robbery, and Eltonia Humphries pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder, state attorneys said.
