Man found guilty of 2014 attempted murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 22-year-old man was found guilty of first-degree attempted murder and armed robbery Friday afternoon in a 2014 case.

According to police, in July 2014 investigators found a victim who had been shot multiple times during an apparent robbery.

Officials said that Whitfield and another person robbed the victim and took off in a stolen vehicle after shooting the victim.

Officers found the car and the gun that Whitfield used in the shooting, which had been tossed in some bushes near the car, police said.

Investigators said they also found a camera in the car with a video of Whitfield driving the stolen vehicle with the gun on his lap.

Whitfield is now facing life in prison with a 25-year minimum mandatory sentence, which will be handed down the week of Aug. 31.
