PALATKA, Fla. – The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is looking for 38-year-old man charged with robbing a Kangaroo convenience store on U.S. 17 at West River Road on Friday afternoon.

The clerk reported that a black man walked into the store, kept his hand in his pocket indicating that he was armed, and demanded money from the cash drawer.

After receiving money from the register, the suspect got into a small blue SUV and drove away. No weapon was ever shown and the clerk was not harmed.

A few minutes after the responding deputies arrived at the robbery scene, a citizen called the Sheriff's Office reporting a blue Jeep SUV driving recklessly on Beech Street just north of Palatka. Additional officers responded and found a blue 2006 Jeep abandoned along the railroad tracks by the Old Jacksonville Highway.

Following the recovery of the Jeep, detectives contacted the registered owner, who said his adult grandson, Tyrone Demond Jenkins, had been driving the SUV.

Detectives showed photos of the robber from the store video system and Jenkins' grandfather positively identified his grandson as the robber.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Jenkins, charging him with robbery. As of Wednesday afternoon, Jenkins has not been located.
