JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Friends gathered Sunday for a memorial run for Terry Sikes, a man who was killed three weeks ago after being hit by a car while riding his bike on the city's Westside.

Early Sunday friends and fellow runners jogged on the beach to celebrate Sike's life. Everyone wore the brightest running shorts they could find as a tribute to their friend.

They say Terry was a talented runner and will be greatly missed.

Terry was training when he was hit by a car that was fleeing the scene of several robberies.

Two men have now been charged in connection with that crime spree on the Westside.

"Terry was a very patient person and very kind," said fellow runner June Tillet. "Very tolerant of all people and situations. Really kind and gentle soul."

"He's such a great guy," said another fellow runner, Gretchen Ehlinger. "I've learned so much about running from him. He was a great runner, but also so much about life. We'd talk about everything from politics to current events, just random things on our runs. He was just an example for the running community. He gave back, he was always smiling, always positive. So it'll be a huge void for the running community."
