National paddle tennis championship held in St. Augustine

More than 100 players competing for title

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The 43rd Annual National Beach Paddle Tennis Championship is being held in St. Augustine this Memorial Day weekend, drawing players from across the country.

The championship is organized by the US POP Tennis Association, holding matches at Treaty Park and Ron Parker Park. More than 100 players are in attendance, competing for titles with some coming from as far away as the west coast. "It's really competitive," said Austin Doerner of California. "Because you're a little bit closer in proximity, I feel that you're a little bit closer to your enemy across the other side of the net."

"POP Tennis," as it's known, is played on a smaller court with a racquet or paddle that is shorter than the average tennis racquet.

Admission is free for spectators. The final match will be played on Monday.
