Deputies in Clay County said they arrested a man Thursday afternoon, four minutes after being notified he was robbing a bank.
Deputies were called to the robbery at Compass Bank at 546 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park at 4:50 p.m. They said the suspect was arrested at 4:54 p.m.
Investigators said the man entered the bank and indicated to a teller that he was armed, but did not display a weapon. The man left the bank with an undetermined amount of money and was seen leaving the area on a bicycle that witnesses then saw placed into the bed of a truck, deputies said.
That description was quickly communicated over the law enforcement radio system, and a deputy spotted the suspect vehicle in traffic on Blanding Boulevard, not far from the bank, deputies said. The deputy conducted a traffic stop in a shopping area parking lot.
Deputies said the suspect will be questioned along with witnesses and employees at the bank.
They said the investigation is ongoing.
