PALM COAST, Fla. – The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says a 24-year-old woman refused to get out of her car after being stopped for speeding on Belle Terre Parkway early Tuesday morning. The deputy says Erin Rose Johnson grabbed his arm and began rolling up her window when he reached in to open the door of her car, refused to take a field sobriety test and otherwise resisted arrest.

According to the Sheriff's Office, her Volkswagen Passat was going an estimated 90 mph in a 45 mph zone about 1:30 a.m. When she was stopped, Deputy Hristakopoulos said Johnson was uncooperative and refused to answer questions.

When asked to get out of her vehicle, she refused multiple times before the deputy reached in to try and open her door; she grabbed his arm and tried to roll up the window with his arm inside. He was not injured.

With additional deputies assisting, Hristakopoulos removed Johnson from the vehicle and placing her in the back seat of his patrol car. Johnson was arrested and charged with DUI, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting law enforcement with violence.

Flagler County deputies suggest that when pulled over by a law enforcement officer, a driver should:

  • Acknowledge the officer by turning on your hazard lights
  • Pull over to a safe area. Stay in the car unless you are asked to exit the vehicle
  • Turn off the engine, roll down the window and turn your interior light on
  • Stay calm and follow the officer's instructions
