1 killed, 1 hurt in Longbranch shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One man was killed and another injured in a shooting Monday in Longbranch, northeast of downtown.

Officers were called to the 1600 block of East 28th Street at Buckman Street just before noon.

Police said the two men were hanging out in front of Jones and Jones Corner Store when they were shot.

"Possibly someone drove up in a vehicle, but all of that information is very unclear," said Sgt. Jay Farhat.

They said William Davis, 25, at UF Health Jacksonville and the other man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There was no suspect information and no witnesses who immediately came forward, police said.

A few neighbors said they heard gunshots but didn't see anyone around.

"We have a fairly extensive crime scene that we're processing," Farhat said. "We'll be out here for a while."

Police said they were talking to the victim and canvassing the area.

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
