Report: NCAA upholds suspension of Florida QB Grier

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nothing official yet from the school or the NCAA, but the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that quarterback Will Grier's appeal has been denied. Grier had been appealing to the NCAA to reduce a 12-month suspension for using a performance-enhancing drug. Grier wanted the suspension reduced to the remainder of the 2015 season.

If the appeal has been denied, Grier will now serve a suspension for the first six games of the 2016 season on top of the at least eight games — six regular season, SEC championship, and a bowl game he'll miss in 2015.

Reportedly, Grier, his lawyer and UF's University Athletic Association met with the NCAA via conference call this past Monday.

Grier has said all along that he took an over-the-counter supplement and didn't know it contained a substance that was on the banned list issued by the NCAA.

He admitted he didn't talk to the UF training staff before taking the over the counter supplement available online and in some supplement stores. His weight gain was so pronounced between his first and second year's on campus in Gainesville that he was asked about it at the SEC Media days last July. He blew it off saying it was "overblown."

As a redshirt freshman, Grier played in the first two games and started and won the next four before he was suspended. Treon Harris has been the starter since Grier's suspension, and the Gators have gone 3-1 in becoming both the SEC East champs and the No. 8 team in the country in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
